Lidl store part of major Wirral plans to transform area

Major plans for one Wirral town including new homes, a “repurposed” library and a Lidl foodstore are being put together.

The Wirral Growth Company (WGC), a 50/50 venture between Wirral Council and urban regeneration specialists Muse Developments, is behind the scheme which is set to be delivered on land between Pasture Road and Knutsford Road in Moreton.

The site is currently made up of a car park, vacant land, redundant buildings and Moreton Library, but WGC’s plans could transform the area.

Under the company’s vision, the site will make way for new family homes, a care/extra facility and a Lidl foodstore.

As well as this, Moreton Library will be “repurposed”, making it more useful to future residents.

Wirral Council said that other “community facilities” in the town will also be improved as part of this proposal to extend the north of Moreton town centre to bolster its identity as a unique, busy and attractive town centre.

WGC is running a public consultation which continues until April 16, allowing you to have your say on the plans here.

If you cannot access the internet, you can receive a physical consultation pack by calling 07849 539 589.

In normal times, the growth company would run an in-person consultation, but this is not possible currently due to the pandemic.

WGC is currently preparing a planning application, which it expects to submit by the summer.

Wirral Council and Muse Developments said the Moreton project is one of their priorities and forms a key part of the long-term vision to regenerate and improve communities across the borough.
