Lidl shoppers rage as £12.99 trainers sell out and turn up on eBay for £1,000

Savvy shoppers are cashing in on Lidl’s popular new trainers - and selling them for as much as £1,000 online.

The trainers, which cost £12.99 at the discount retailer, were launched in the UK just last week and were quick to sell out, according to Lidl’s official Twitter account.

However, there are no current plans to restock the colourful shoes - and some shoppers have been quick to take advantage of the situation.

The shoes, which are red, yellow and blue, feature the Lidl logo and are being sold online for considerably more than their original price, from £30 to £500, right up to buy-it-now prices of £1,000 on eBay, reports the MEN .

Some shoppers took to Twitter to complain about the situation directly to Lidl's GB account.

One person said: "Can’t even get a pair because t***pots have snapped them up in bulk and are banging them on eBay at stupid prices."

Another wrote: "Not easy to get the trainers when the staff in my local store are chatting openly about buying 3 or 4 pairs each to sell online."

Lidl has confirmed on Twitter that it would be investigating the situation after a number of customers alerted them to eBay sales of the trainers.

A spokesperson for Lidl said: "With regards to items being sold on eBay, we have been made aware and are looking into this."

Of the out-of-stock trainers, Lidl said it is "hopeful for their return to stores again in future" but no date has been confirmed for a restock.
