Lidl set to open new multi-million supermarket in Longwell Green

Bargain supermarket giant Lidl is set to open a new store which will create 40 jobs.

The  1,246m2 shop will be built on the former Homebase site on Aldermoor Lane, in Longwell Green after planners at South Gloucestershire Council gave the green light for the development.

The budget retailer  first revealed earlier this year it wanted to open a brand new store as part of its ongoing expansion ambitions within the UK.

Workers are expected to start renovating the store within the next nine months and bosses hope to officially open next autumn.

The supermarket will feature facilities including an instore bakery and customer toilets, which are still a rarity at branches of Lidl.

Glen Stidever, Lidl UK’s Regional Head of Property, said: “We could not be more delighted to have received planning permission, and look forward to getting started on the fit out.

"I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the local community for their continued support, and very much look forward to opening our doors and offering our fresh, quality, great value products in the not too distant future.”

Two thirds of supermarket's products are British sourced, according to a Lidl spokesperson.

Around 50 new stores will be opened by Lidl next year, including a new store in Patchway. Work has already started on the Hayes Way store.
