Lidl sells bubbly for just £12.49 - and experts claim it's better than top brands

Budget supermarket Lidl is giving shoppers a taste of luxury this Christmas without breaking the bank with its new value-for-money champagne.

The new £12.49 Veuve Delattre Champagne Brut NV is a new addition to the chain's everyday value core range of wines, and has been recognised by Which? for its ‘Great Value’ as part of its annual Champagne report.

The results of the expert, blind taste-test scored Lidl’s Veuve Delattre Champagne Brut NV at 77 per cent, beating some of the top French Champagne houses.

Which? commented that Lidl’s ‘Great Value’ Champagne was “the cheapest on test, yet it outshone many pricier rivals”.

It scored higher than: Moët & Chandon Brut Imperial N/V £38 (73%), Piper-Heidsieck Brut £35 (71%), Taittinger Brut Reserve N/V £36 (69%) and Aldi Philizot et Fils Blanc de Noirs £18 (70%) in the consumer association poll.

Richard Bampfield, Lidl’s Master of Wine, said: “The results of this expert blind-tasting are a well-deserved endorsement for what truly is a great value bottle of Champagne. - proving once again that Lidl cannot be beaten on price or quality.

"Lidl’s Veuve Delattre Champagne Brut NV is a brilliant option for those looking to save and impress over the festive period.”

- Lidl’s Veuve Delattre Champagne Brut NV (priced at £12.49 a bottle) is available in stores now.
