Lidl security guard attacked as police name suspect

A man has been charged with assault after a security guard was attacked in Lidl.

Police were called to the supermarket, in Liverpool Lime Street, at 6.10pm on Monday, to reports of an assault.

On arrival officers were forced to use spray to arrest the suspect - Rhys Jordan-Stewart, 20, from Manchester - after he tried to flee from the scene.

The 20-year-old was charged with assault and obstructing a police officer.

He has since been released on bail and will appear before court at a later date.

Posting on their Twitter page, Merseyside Police said: "Neighbourhood Sgt responded to an assault at Lidl on Lime Street.

"A short foot chase then took place before the suspect was arrested only after the Officer had to deploy his incapicitant spray.

"The suspect was arrested for assault and resist arrest."
