Lidl's new Bristol Avonmeads store making progress as signage appears

Lidl has started advertising its new supermarket set to open at a Bristol shopping park.

Bristol Live reported in March that the retailer was set to replace the former Currys PC World unit at Avonmeads Retail Park, just off St Philips Causeway.

Since then, new signage has appeared at the entrance of the retail park indicating that a new Lidl store is coming soon.

The banner, which includes Lidl branding, reads: “We’re cracking on with your new store.”

The supermarket branch has now confirmed that developers are currently on site working on the new store.

In a statement it said: “We are delighted to confirm plans to bring a new store to Bristol on the Avonmeads Retail Park and are due to start our fit out works this autumn.

“We look forward to updating the local community further in due course and to delivering our fresh, quality and affordable produce to even more residents.”

The new branch, located at the same retail park as Showcase Cinema, is set to be the 16th Lidl supermarket in Bristol and the surrounding area.

Fencing has been put up outside the unit and there are signs of construction on site, although the chain has previously advised that it does not expect to open until "early 2022".

As previously reported, the supermarket will have a sales area spanning 1,144sqm and will create about 30 new full and part-time jobs.

The retail park, owned by DTZ Investors, British Airways Pension Trustees, is also home to several other big brands, including The Range, M&S Simply Food, Wilko and Boots.

According to commercial listings there are currently three other vacant units at Avonmeads Retail Park, ranging from 1,342 sqft to 14,951 sqft in size.
