Lidl respond to annoyed customers who queued at stores to find advertised coffee machine not on shelves

Lidl has apologised to customers who queued at stores for an advertised coffee machine that wasn't in store.

Customers around the country had headed to shops at opening times for items set to go on sale as part of the "coffee break" special this Monday.

However, due to a delay with the supplier the items will now not be arriving until Saturday.

Customers who had queued early got in store to be greeted with a sign that these items were unfortunately not yet in stock.

Eoin Whyte in Kerry tweeted: "Queued all morning to purchase the advertised 'Swan Coffee machine' in your Tralee store only to be told none had arrived there or in any other surrounding stores. Why do you advertise products if none are even delivered?"

Another customer Lindsey said: "I went into my local lidl this morning for an advertised milk frother and saw this sign. Does this apply to all Lidl’s or just mine. Very annoying."

The supermarket chain apologised to all customers for the mix-up and assured them it will be in stock this weekend.

A spokesperson said: "We're sorry about that, there was a delay with our supplier but we're planning to have this on sale this Saturday."

Customers are not able to reserve products under Lidl's rules and they are instead sold on a first come first served basis.
