Supermarket chain Lidl is drawing back the former Iron Curtain to stock a range of amazing wines, starting at just £5.99.
Eastern Europe is having its moment in the wine world, with searches for wine from countries such as Hungary rising more than 350 per cent year-on-year.
The new Lidl varieties include two crisp whites and one gorgeous rosé – all perfect for al fresco dining or drinking alongside light, summery dishes.
The Aureos Sauvignon Blanc (£5.99) from Bulgaria is a winning choice. Combining characteristic freshness with ripe, juicy fruit, the flavoursome tipple is a great accompaniment to a picnic.
A Hungarian speciality, the unusual Haraszthy Sir Irsai (£6.49) produces distinctive spicy, dry whites that go perfectly with fish. There’s something for Rosé fans too - with the delicate and dry Kamocsay Ákos Pinot Noir Rosé (£5.99), that will make a summer salad in the sunshine taste better than ever.
'Forefront of trend'
