Lidl has submitted plans to open a new shop in Garston as part of its latest expansion in Merseyside.
The shop would open in the former Co-op unit on St Mary's Road and include an in-store bakery, customer toilets and 87 car parking spaces including disabled, parent and child spaces and two rapid electric vehicle charging points.
It is the latest in a series of new branches for the supermarket giant, with a recently opened shop in Toxteth and two more planned in Belle Vale and on Great Homer Street.
Liverpool Council will consider the plans in the coming months.
Lidl’s regional head of property, Stuart Jardine, said: “We are extremely excited about the prospect of further progressing our ambitious investment programme for Liverpool and are delighted to be announcing our plans for a new store in Garston.
“The proposals make good use of a derelict, brownfield site and, if approved, will bring new visitors to the centre of Garston.

“We want to hear from the local community and so have launched this ‘virtual’ public consultation to give everyone an opportunity to review our plans. We hope that as many people as possible are able to join us and we look forward to sharing and discussing our plans with everyone.”
It is hoped up to 40 jobs could be created through the new shop.
The public are invited to comment on the proposals via a dedicated website www.garston.expansion.lidl.co.uk and through a postcard being delivered to properties in the area.
