Lidl has submitted plans for a new Merseyside store which could create as many as 40 jobs.
The supermarket chain hopes to build a new shop on derelict industrial land on the junction of New Chester Road and Caldbeck Road in Bromborough, Wirral.
If its plans are approved by Wirral Council, Lidl promises to bring a “modern, spacious supermarket” to the town, which will create up to 40 full-time and part-time jobs.
The shop will host an in-store bakery, 10 cycle parking hoops and 120 car parking spaces, including 10 spaces for disabled users and 10 parent and child parking spaces.
There will also be two electric vehicle charging points at the store.
In a bid to support ‘active travel’, the company will introduce a new pedestrian and cycle route across the supermarket car park from New Chester Road.
This is Lidl’s third attempt at passing its plans at the Bromborough site, with Wirral Council previously rejecting applications as they represented a change of use from employment to retail land.
Despite submitting a third application, Lidl is still appealing the council’s second refusal of its plans.
The supermarket chain expects the appeal to be decided in the next few weeks.
Stuart Jardine, Lidl’s head of property for North Wales and North West England, said 92% of respondents supported a new store at the site in the company’s local consultation.

Mr Jardine added: “We are pleased that the consultation has once again confirmed that we have strong community support for a new store on this site.
“The site is well located, within comfortable walking distance to the centre of Bromborough and connected to the local cycle network.
“A new Lidl supermarket here will provide increased shopping choice and competition for local people.”
Mr Jardine was keen to emphasise the benefits of Lidl’s plans to the local economy.
He said: “Our plans will bring this derelict site back into use and create up to 40 new full and part-time jobs for local people in the process.
“We now await a decision from Wirral Council and will keep everyone updated on progress in due course.”
