Lidl now accepts American Express and you can get £5 off when you shop there

American Express cardholders can now make payments at supermarket Lidl for the first time since the grocer launched in the UK.

And to mark the expansion, cardmembers can get £5 cashback when they spend £20 in stores between now and May 17.

"The number of places where American Express is accepted continues to grow, and we’re delighted that cardmembers can now use their Card to pay at Lidl stores across England, Scotland and Wales," Thelma De la Peña, at American Express said.

The credit reward will give the first 50,000 customers £5 back when they shop at the grocer - but to activate it, you'll have to add the offer to your card from the Amex mobile app or website.

"Welcoming Lidl onto the American Express network means that American Express Cards are now accepted at all major supermarkets in Great Britain and it represents another important step in ensuring our Cardmembers have the option to use their Card at the places they want to shop," De la Peña explained.

A Lidl GB spokesman added: "At Lidl we're committed to improving our customer experience. We’re therefore pleased to announce that we are now accepting American Express payments in our stores across Great Britain, giving our customers another quick and efficient way to pay for their shopping."
