Lidl launches the Croll - a combination of croissant and bread roll

Discount store Lidl is baking a name for itself with its latest foodie innovation – the Croll.

The treat combines the delicious taste and texture of a croissant with the  hold of a bread roll, making them easier to slice and fill with a choice of sweet or savoury filling.

Following tasty pastry predecessors such as the ‘Cronut’ (croissant-doughnut) and the ‘Duffin’ (doughnut-muffin), Lidl’s Crolls are designed to be less flaky than a regular croissant for maximum enjoyment and minimal mess.

Shoppers looking to mix things up can delight BBQ guests this summer and serve sumptuous savoury burgers enveloped in the surprising buttery taste of a Croll, or start the day in a mixed-up way with a breakfast roll, using the Croll.

The more cautious consumers can keep it sweet and match the Croll with strawberries and whipped cream.

Richard Inglis, head of buying at Lidl said: “This summer we want to help our shoppers get Big On BBQs, whilst remaining Lidl on price.

"The Croll is a deliciously versatile creation, which is sure to add the WOW factor to summer entertaining.”

Lidl’s Crolls launches in store on Thursday, priced just 49p.
