Lidl launches its Christmas 2021 advert

Today (Friday) Lidl are predicting the future of Christmas with its 2021 festive advert.

Lidl released its advert via Twitter this morning, giving shoppers a preview of what the supermarket thinks a future Christmas could look like.

It follows the release of the highly-anticipated Christmas adverts premiered by John Lewis, Disney and Marks & Spencer yesterday (Thursday).

Lidl's ad starts in the present day, as a family - complete with pet dog - sit around a kitchen table preparing for a traditional Christmas lunch.

In the next scene, the same family sits at the table for Christmas dinner again - but this time it's set decades into the future.

A futuristic meat-carving laser is used to serve the turkey and the group discusses how some family members have moved to the Moon.

The next clip shows an even more futuristic Christmas dinner, with the same family still enjoying the supermarket's festive fare at ‘Lidl’ prices.

This time, the family's dog has a device which allows it to talk, and the adults chat about what it's like to 'live forever.'

No matter the decade, the advert features a host of Lidl’s Christmas products at great prices.

It includes Deluxe Pigs in Blankets, Lidl’s Outstanding-rated Crémant de Loire, new for this year Vegan Garland and a full festive spread with a free-range British turkey.

Viewers are also treated to a preview of Lidl’s new 2021 Christmas jumper (and what it might look like in years to come), worn by one of the characters throughout the advert.

Claire Farrant, Marketing Director at Lidl GB, said: “After a challenging couple of years, the nation wants to look forward not back, which is why we’ve set our light-hearted ad decades in the future.

"This is a food retailer first at Christmas and we feel Lidl is best placed to take our customers there!

"Given our commitment to always be Big on quality, Lidl on price this year we wanted our Christmas advert to show that we really do mean always, no matter what the future has in store for us!”

The campaign had its first showing on Twitter on this morning (Friday) and will have its TV premiere during Coronation Street this evening.
