Lidl launches £6 pink prosecco and is Scotland's first retailer to stock fancy fizz

Lidl claims to have taken the crown as the first UK retailer to stock pink Prosecco - just in time for this year’s potentially ‘virtual’ festive party season.

The budget chain has stocked its Scots supermarket shelves with bottles of Rosé Prosecco, which is available to buy now for £6.49.

It has been able to produce the never-before-seen drink due to a recent change in Italian law.

The rule change meant that Pinot Noir grapes could be used to give the popular sparkling wine drink a distinctive pale pink hue.

Lidl’s Rose Prosecco is said to have to notes of fruity strawberry and has been described as being not too dry with a gentle fizz.

Bosses claim that it is perfect for prosecco lovers who are on the hunt for something new.

Paul McQuade, Head of Wine Buying at Lidl GB, said: “We are really excited to be the first UK retailer to sell Pink Prosecco to customers, and know that it is a hotly anticipated product for the festive season.

“Our award-winning Prosecco range is very popular with customers up and down the country so we are pleased to be able to bring them a UK retailer first, at a fantastic price to boot.”
