Lidl just introduced a new way for Northern Ireland shoppers to get food and essentials

With many in our society unable to get to their local supermarket, Lidl has just made it easier for people to pay for essentials and groceries.

The supermarket has introduced a new scheme that allows volunteers to buy special vouchers in store to purchase goods on behalf of others.

The vouchers can be bought over the telephone by phoning one of Lidl's dedicated team before they are posted directly to your door.

Starting this week, customers can purchase a Lidl Community Gift Card, up to the value of £200, by calling Lidl's hotline on 0800-008-3016.

Customers will then be issued vouchers via registered post which they can share with family members, friends or a volunteer who can utilise these vouchers to purchase their shopping at Lidl.

Over the past few weeks the supermarket chain have introduced a number of measures, such as our priority shopping hours for the elderly taking place each morning from 9am – 11am, to ensure they looked out for the most vulnerable in society.

Speaking to Belfast Live, a Lidl spokesperson said they were also aware that many of their regular shoppers were unable to frequent their stores at present as they are isolating and cocooning at home.

Aoife Clarke, Head of Communications for Lidl Northern Ireland commented, said: "The past couple of months have been a whirlwind for everyone but we are delighted to have been able to support our communities throughout this challenging time.

"Our teams have been working diligently to make shopping trips as safe as possible for both our customers and our valiant store teams and we are thrilled to further those efforts with the launch our Lidl Community Gift Cards which offer at-risk customers a remote payment solution."

More information on the Lidl Community Cards can be found on their website HERE.
