Lidl Ireland sends message to worried shoppers as new restrictions come in

Lidl Ireland has moved to calm customers in a bid to prevent panic buying in the coming weeks.

The nation was thrown into panic on Sunday night when it emerged that NPHET experts had advise the entire country was moved to level 5 coronavirus restrictions.

Level 5 would mean that the country would be placed under extremely tight restrictions and an essential return to the initial lockdown which we experienced back in March.

Common scenes across the country during the first lockdown involved supermarket shelves being stripped bare as people rushed out to panic buy for fear of not being able to leave their house.

And despite the fact that the government opted to implement Level 3 restrictions instead, there is still the possibility of harsher restrictions in the coming months.

However the German retail giant took to social media yesterday to ensure its customers that there was no need to worry about stock in their stores.

A spokesperson wrote: "We’d like to put your minds at ease. Due to our robust supply chain, we're confident of maintaining supply of key lines even as demand remains high. Our stores will receive daily deliveries as planned and we ask our customers not to panic buy.

"Along with in-store sanitisation, social distancing, perspex till guards, face masks, queue management systems and more, we have measures are in place to keep our stores as safe as possible.

"Our teams in our stores and distribution centre are working tirelessly to continue to maintain availability of food and supplies for families across the country and we ask the public to show compassion when interacting with our hardworking store teams during this demanding period."
