Lidl Ireland's perfect response when asked 'can we loot your shops yet?' amid coronavirus crisis

Lidl brilliantly shot down a question on social media joking about looting their stores.

With the country in lockdown there are a lot of similarities to the 'Beast from the East' type shutdown in 2018 - which saw a Dublin Lidl store attacked by a JCB and looted.

And now a few people have been tweeting the supermarket chain asking if it's time for a repeat.

The chain originally tweeted: "In recent days we have experienced significantly stronger sales in many categories.

"Due to our robust and agile supply chain, we're confident of maintaining supply of key lines as consumer demand remains high and our stores are continuing to receive deliveries as planned."

And one Twitter user cheekily replied: "Can we loot your shops yet?"

And clearly unimpressed by the question, the Lidl admin replied: "Ideally not?".

The tweet racked up over 1,000 likes with the cheeky Twitter user adding "if anything changes let me know".

Lidl is among a number of supermarkets that has been forced to put product purchase limits in place to curve panic buying.

A spokesperson for the shop said: "Lidl is in constant contact with suppliers and partners as the situation develops.

"We've put product quantity limitations in place on a select few product lines to ensure availability for as many customers as possible, and we would ask that customers respect these measures.

"Our teams in our stores and distribution centres are working tirelessly to continue to maintain availability of food and supplies for families across the country and we ask the public to show compassion when interacting with our hardworking store teams during this demanding period."
