Lidl Ireland issues urgent food safety warning of popular product containing Salmonella

An urgent recall alert has been issued to Lidl customers in Ireland after Salmonella was detected in a batch of products.

The supermarket giant is asking people not to eat a specific batch of its Deluxe Stuffed Dates over food safety fears.

The warning was released by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland on Tuesday.

According to the FSAI, people infected with Salmonella typically develop symptoms between 12 and 36 hours after infection, but this can range between six and 72 hours.

The most common symptom is diarrhoea, which can sometimes be bloody.

Other symptoms may include fever, headache and abdominal cramps and the illness usually lasts for four to seven days.

Diarrhoea can occasionally be severe enough to require hospital admission and the elderly, infants and those with impaired immune systems are more likely to have a severe illness.

The Deluxe Stuffed Dates being recalled by Lidl have a pack size of 240g, a batch code of 21301/196 and a best before date of January 21, 2022.

Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batch and point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in Lidl stores supplied with the implicated products.
