Lidl Ireland issue scam warning about very believable fake email targeting customers

Lidl has issued a warning about a very believable email scam targeting its customers.

The fraudsters claim to be an independent third-party security team that are working on behalf of the retail giant.

Customers receive a bogus email where the scammers say they're updating the security protocols for the retailer's website, however, they're trying to gather personal information.

The bogus email can be identified by its title which reads 'Data security HealthForYou' and the content of the email is as follows: "Dear customer, We constantly adapt our apps and systems to the latest security standards. As part of the IT security review of our apps, an independent test organisation has identified a potential security flaw.

"We rectified it immediately. There are no indications that your data has been accessed through the security flaw. In order to meet our responsibility, however, we have automatically reset your password for you.

"This means that you can no longer use your old password with immediate effect. Please set a new password using the following link. Once you've changed the password, you can log in with your email address and the new password. You can find more information on the following link. Kind regards, your HealthForYou team."

Since this email was brought to Lidl's attention, they released the following statement via social media :"Hi there, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

"This is not from us so we would advise you not to click the link. We have also flagged this with the relevant team. Thanks."
