Lidl Ireland announces €1m contract with solar energy provider Enerpower

Lidl Ireland will soon be powering much of its business with solar power, generating enough energy to run more than 950 homes each year.

The popular supermarket chain today announced a new €1million contract with Enerpower, a Waterford-based solar energy provider.

Enerpower will install solar panels on a further 10 stores over the next 12 months, making Lidl Ireland the largest rooftop solar array owner in the country.

When complete, a total of 22 Lidl stores and the retailer’s Newbridge regional distribution centre will have photovoltaic (PV) solar panels.

Through these, enough energy will be generated to power more than 950 Irish homes each year.

Alan Barry, Director of Property and Central Services for Lidl Ireland, said: “We are committed to moving towards and incorporating a more sustainable store concept into all future expansion and refurbishment projects.

“With every store and location that we convert to solar energy, we are significantly reducing our carbon footprint and making significant savings on our energy costs.

“These savings will be passed on in the value that we provide to our customers.”
