Lidl customers ‘not impressed’ after popular shopping app goes offline

Lidl customers across the country have been left unable to redeem coupons at Lidl stores after the Lidl Plus app became available to use today.

Lidl Ireland took to Twitter saying “We are working very hard to get this sorted as soon as possible! We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

They explained that the app difficulties were due to a “technical issue.”

The app promises “incredible savings every time you shop at Lidl,” and customers can scan their Lidl Plus app at the checkout to receive instant savings.

Customers have been showing up to Lidl checkouts, unaware that their coupons could not be redeemed and many have been left disappointed and frustrated at the situation.

One frustrated customer says they ended up paying their €171 bill in full after being unable to redeem their Lidl Plus coupons.

“Would’ve gone to another supermarket if I knew at the entrance that the Lidl Plus app wasn’t working,” they said.

While Lidl stores have been attempting to advise customers who use the Lidl Plus app ahead of purchases that the shopping app is down.

One Twitter user said they ended up leaving purchases made on the app at the till “after having an A4 page shoved in my face.”

Another customer said that they ended up leaving their products at the checkouts too, saying “the sign at the entrance could have been located better.”

Another added: “Stores should tell customers on entrance as my local did not”.

Lidl Ireland insisted that they are “working hard to resolve this issue.”
