Lidl confirms plan to open a new supermarket at West Bridgford retail park

Supermarket giant Lidl has confirmed plans to open up a new store on a West Bridgford retail site.

The development, which is scheduled to be completed in January next year, will be built off Wilford Lane as part of a new £20m retail park.

Quora Developments, which has bought the commercial element of the site off Wilford Lane Developments, has also confirmed contracts had been signed for a Pure Gym to open as well as a Starbucks coffee shop at the site in West Bridgford.

Consent was approved in March last year and the supermarket giant is now applying for signage at the new store.

It will join nearby Lidl supermarkets in Castle Marina retail park, Mansfield Road and Midland Way in Nottingham once work is completed.

Applicants Lidl GB Ltd state: "The proposal relates to signage associated with a new Lidl foodstore; a commercial building, which is currently undergoing construction, set for completion in January 2022.

The continue: "The signage is in keeping with the commercial context of the site and does not detract from the character of the surrounding area."

The new retail businesses are expected to open next year at the park and it is hoped many jobs will be created as a result - although some have raised concerns over an increase in traffic and the risk of accidents.

The application for Lidl's signage will now be considered by Rushcliffe Borough Council's planning committee.
