Irish shoppers have been warned that Lidl’s opening hours across the country will be different tomorrow, Sunday, October 17.
In honour of the hard work put in by staff during the pandemic and beyond, the supermarket will close earlier than usual - at 8:00 pm - to allow them to hold a national staff recognition event.
Announcing the change to customers on social media, Lidl wrote: "Please note that our stores will be closing at ** 8:00 pm** this Sunday 17th October.
"This is to allow us to hold a national staff recognition event to say thank you to our amazing teams for their continued hard work!"
It went on to thank the public for understanding, and said; "We appreciate your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."
Customers have been praising the idea of rewarding the ‘brilliant’ staff on Facebook, with one writing; “Amazing staff in all the stores, particularly thank you so much to staff on the Greenhills Rd, Lidl, and Main Rd, Tallaght. Fabulous every one of them. Thank you so much. Well deserved.”
Another wrote; “Lovely gesture Lidl Ireland, thank you to all Lidl staff and enjoy your event.”
There were hundreds of comments thanking the staff for their hard work, and among them was one that said; “Well and truly deserved.
"Thanks to all the Staff in Lidls for their efforts before, during and I know they will be superb after the pandemic. Enjoy your night.”
Stores will be open tomorrow from 8:00 am, and will close at 8:00 pm, however, their hours will return to normal on Monday.
