Lidl armed robber caught after garda chase ends in car crash in north Dublin

A 26-year-old man was arrested after a garda chase ended in a car crash in north Dublin.

The incident began when two men armed with a gun stormed into Lidl on Grange Road in Baldoyle at around 4.30 pm yesterday.

They left the with a sum of money after threatening the staff and jumped into a grey coloured car.

Gardai followed the car in a management pursuit operation after spotting the vehicle leave the scene.

The garda chase ended after the car got into a crash on Priorswood Road, Dublin 17.

The man, who was seen fleeing the car, was arrested and was taken to Raheny Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 30, Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

Gardai seized a firearm and the cash from the robbery.

A Lidl spokesperson confirmed to Dublin Live that the robbery took place in their Baldoyle store.

A large police presence was seen in the area just off the Malahide Road in Coolock, and Gardai had swarmed the north Dublin estate of Moatview in Priorswood, Dublin 17.

Several readers had got in touch to say there have been reports of a shooting - however, Gardai confirmed to Dublin Live that this was not the case.
