News just in, Lidl is giving us the taste of Spain - seeing as we're not jetting off anytime soon, and are bringing back their hit Churros this week and we couldn’t be happier about the news. Not only that, but a popular Portuguese tart too - ready for the weekend.
The budget supermarket first launched the sugar-coated Sol Y Mar Churro goodness back in 2018 and to lift your lockdown spirits, they’re returning to the frozen section of Lidl this week. As expected, they flew off the shelves first time round and we think the same will happen again so get them whist you can.
Priced at just £1.19 for a bag, these are sure to be a hit with those young and old so why not pick some up on your next shopping trip, getting those essentials?
The Churros are made with a choux pastry and doughnut like texture. They heat up in no time and taste even better when served with melted chocolate, toffee sauce or dunk into some hazelnut spread.
As well as Lidl delighting us with Churros, they’re also launching Sol Y Mar Pasteis de Nata - a traditional Portuguese treat made from a scrummy egg custard filling and encased in a flaky pastry tart. They sound right up our street.
You’ll find a box of six, priced at £2.69, of these delights also in the freezer section - and when you’re ready, just pop in the oven for when you want a little indulgence. Which for us, has become everyday in lockdown. Lidl has described them as "a little afternoon pick me up or an after dinner treat."
All this and more can be brought in Lidl stores from Thursday, 7th May. To find your nearest Lidl and opening times, why not use the store locator.
What’s more, the much-loved supermarket chain has released their own perfect Paella recipe. So customers can create their very own Mediterranean inspired feast from the comfort of their casas. Made using the Schwartz Paella Mix, which is a bargain at just 49p, this super simple recipe serves four and is a guaranteed crowd pleaser.
Lidl’s Perfect Paella recipe:
Serves: 4
Prep: 5 mins
Cook: 23-30 mins
Defrost 200g of Sol & Mar Langostino raw prawns. Then in a large lidded frying pan, fry 1 chopped onion, 125g chopped Iberian chorizo and 1 deseeded and sliced yellow pepper for 4-5 mins. Add 300g Short Grain Rice for Paella. Cook, stirring for 1 minute.
Mix a 30g sachet Schwartz Paella mix with 1L cold water, add to the pan. Bring to the boil, then simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid has mostly absorbed and the rice is tender.
Add the prawns, 100g frozen peas and 100g cherry tomatoes. Cover and cook for 4-5 minutes, until the prawns are cooked through. Serve with lemon wedges and garnish with chopped parsley, if liked.
Viola. See you at Lidl then?
