Lidl and a 24 hour Starbucks expected to be approved for city area

Lidl and Starbucks could be set to open new branches in Liverpool as proposals for new shops are expected to be approved

Members of the council's planning committee are being recommended to approve plans for the two shops to be built as part of the expansion of Liverpool Shopping Park on Edge Lane.

A report attached to applicant Derwent Group's plans says the Starbucks will be open 24 hours a day while the Lidl would be open from 8am to 11pm, with around 50 jobs expected to be created.

The report says: "The provision of a LIDL foodstore in this location will add to consumer choice and add vitality to the remainder of the LSP development which is a Mayoral priority.

"In isolation, it would create up to 50 jobs whilst the wider LSP programme will create up to 3000 jobs in total."

As well as the new shops the proposals would also see a car park with 145 spaces built.

Liverpool Shopping Park has been the focus of redevelopment efforts for a number of years.

Though it opened as Edge Lane Retail Park in 1991, it underwent a major reorganisation before a series of new shop openings in 2017 and 2018.

Last year Derwent received permission to expand the park again , with a new cinema, gym and shops among the plans.
