Lidl £14 trainers being sold for £450 on eBay as shoppers rush to bag a pair

Savvy shoppers are cashing in on Lidl’s popular new trainers - and selling them for as much as £450 online.

The trainers, which cost £14 at the discount retailer, were launched overseas in April and have proven hugely popular since.

The shoes, which are red, yellow and blue, feature the Lidl logo and are being sold for almost 30 times their original price on sites such as eBay, reports the Mirror.

The popularity of the colourful shoes was evident from the moment they went on sale, with shoppers queuing for hours to get hold of a pair, Finnish news site Foreigner reports.

One customer said: “Everyone lined up normally. At exactly 8 am they run or quickly walked to the shop and the sneakers’ shelf emptied in less than 10 seconds.”

Another described people "on top of each other" as the seller shouted: "Remember the social distance."

As the madness intensified one person even listed a pair on Finnish auction site Tori for £5,400.

With news of the Lidl shoes spreading to the UK, people are coming up with plans to get in on the action.

One said: “Thinking of starting a black market ebusiness where I smuggle Lidl trainers.”

The shoes were still available on Lidl’s Dutch website for £12 this week, but many were disappointed to find out Lidl doesn't ship internationally.

Unfortunately, Brits looking to make money from the deal might struggle, after the supermarket said the shoes won’t be sold in the UK any time soon.
