Licensed workers urged to head interstate

The JobPass scheme aims to allow some workers to move interstate more easily. (AAP)

Licensed and registered workers are being encouraged to 'work where the work is' under a new federal government campaign.

The JobPass scheme will automatically recognise some interstate work licences and registrations without delays, additional fees and lengthy paperwork, and create a more mobile workforce.

The scheme is expected to boost the economy by $2.4 billion over 10 years with more than 168,000 people expected to take up job opportunities interstate each year, including electricians, architects and real estate agents.

From July 1, more businesses and workers will benefit as more work licences and registrations become part of the scheme.

The scheme is already in place in NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, the ACT and the Northern Territory for a growing number of occupations, while Western Australia is working to enter the scheme by July 1.

The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet says the campaign will be rolled out across radio, print and digital, targeting border communities.
