Libyan Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dbeibeh has called on Morocco to support efforts to establish national reconciliation in his country.
Dbeibeh was in Rabat on an official visit, during which he met with his Moroccan counterpart Saadeddine Othmani as well as Speakers Habib el-Malki and Hakim Benchamach.
Dbeibeh told Malki that Libya would like Morocco to continue its support to achieve stability in the elections scheduled for December, especially since Libya was able to unify 80 percent of the divided institutions.
He lauded Moroccan efforts to resolve the Libyan crisis, thanking King Mohammed VI for his support.
“You have laid the foundations for the inter-Libyan dialogue that was launched in Skhirat, Morocco,” said the premier.
He stressed the importance of continuing Rabat’s support for Libyan national reconciliation, noting that Morocco is qualified to lead the national reconciliation, especially that it held the most difficult political discussions between the Libyan parties.
Dbeibeh announced that Libya wants to enhance economic and trade cooperation with Morocco, adding that an agreement was reached to hold a Moroccan-Libyan economic forum as soon as possible, which would constitute an occasion to introduce investment opportunities in the two countries and enable businessmen to establish economic and commercial partnerships.
For his part, the Speaker asserted his country’s support to the Libyan people. He said that Morocco has a strong political will to rebuild Libya and support the intra-Libyan dialogue.
Othmani said during his meeting with Dbeibeh that Morocco looks forward to the success of the upcoming elections in Libya, stressing the Kingdom's support to any consensual solution agreed upon by the different components and accepted by the people.
He indicated that the visit constitutes an opportunity to advance bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries at all levels.
A statement by the Moroccan government stated that the officials affirmed the two governments’ desire to advance bilateral cooperation in various fields and create the appropriate conditions to enhance Moroccan-Libyan trade exchanges and expand their horizons.
They also expressed their aspiration to activate the Moroccan-Libyan joint commission.
