Libya Launches Awareness Campaigns on COVID-19

Misrata vaccination center (Misrata Medical Center)

The Libyan National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) said it organized a lecture to raise awareness on the importance of COVID-related precautionary measures to guarantee a safe return to schools.

This came as Minister of Education Musa Al-Maqrif set November 14 as date for the preliminary start of 2021-2022 school year for all classes.

The minister said that vaccination is mandatory for all students and teachers who want to enter the campus.

NCDC said it has plans to launch more awareness campaigns on COVID-19 in the future. It also intends to offer vaccines for citizens without a prior appointment.

In the same context, the International Organization for Migration (IOM Libya) launched a COVID-19 vaccination campaign for migrants in detention centers in western Libya.

More than 3,000 migrants attended COVID-19 vaccination information sessions and so far more than 500 have received the vaccine.

A total of 4,860 have died in Libya since the outbreak of the pandemic, official data showed, while the cumulative cases reached 349,000 of which 277,000 recovered.
