Libyan National Army (LNA) commander Khalifa Haftar has disregarded the US demand to halt the fighting in Tripoli and launched a series of wide-scope operations against pro-Sarraj forces.
The LNA media division said that the units destroyed the enemy's defense in advanced points at El-Sbeaa. The LNA urged on Friday residents of Salaheddine not to approach conflict zones and to stay away from the enemy’s sites.
"The United States calls on the 'Libyan National Army' to end its offensive on Tripoli," the US State Department said in a joint statement released on Thursday.
“The US delegation, representing a number of US government agencies, underscored support for Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of Russia’s attempts to exploit the conflict against the will of the Libyan people,” the statement added.
On April 7, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called for an immediate halt to military operations in Libya. However, US President Donald Trump spoke by phone earlier with Haftar and discussed “ongoing counterterrorism efforts.”
In another context, UN Envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame and German officials are mobilizing international forces to attend an anticipated conference in Berlin to tackle the crisis in the country, while the US and the Russian stances escalate.
Further, Mohamed Ibrahim Tamer, a member of the House of Representatives for the South, told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that there will be consequences if the house of representatives wasn’t represented.
Tamer resumed that the conference outcomes take its legitimacy from the house of representatives, or else the crisis will aggravate and the great powers are aware of this fact.
