Libraries and train stations across Glasgow to benefit from new ebike stations

Glaswegians have more of a reason than ever to ditch the four wheels in favour of two after public bicycle hire scheme nextbike announced plans to install a further ten new ebike stations across the city - with capacity for 100 bikes.

The new stations come hot on the heels of the 11 that were installed back in January this year amid a demand in the city that saw over 500,000 bike rentals alone back in 2019.

The new stations contribute towards an overall target set by Glasgow City Council of 1,000 bikes at 100 stations in the city, with the scheme now an integral part of Glasgow’s effort to promote more sustainable forms of transport.

The stations are located at: Cathcart Railway Station, Corkerhill Railway Station, Maryland Drive, Pollokshields East Railway Station, Mount Vernon Railway Station, Riddrie South, Maryhill Library, Anniesland Library, Gorbals Library and Pollok Roundabout.

The hire scheme landed in the city back in April of 2016 with an original plan to provide 400 bikes for hire at 31 locations across Glasgow.

It comes after the council revealed last week that the city centre will soon benefit from enhanced active travel provision - with improvements set for a cycle lane on Howard Street later this month.

The existing (advisory), contra-flow cycle lane which runs along the one-way street will soon have soft segregation fitted where possible, between Jamaica Street and Dunlop Street.
