Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton self isolating after coronavirus fears

Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton has self isolated herself and her family after a neighbour tested positive for coronavirus.

Despite not showing any symptoms, Michelle is taking extra precautions after falling ill in Bali and concern for her son AJ, who has a weakened immune system after suffering a bout of meningitis.

Appearing on Lorraine this morning live from her home, the star spoke to ITV's resident health expert Dr Hilary about why she has chosen to self isolate, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Michelle said: "For me, I feel a little bit confused about the information we've been given."

Dr Hilary said: "I completely understand your need to protect your children."

The doctor explained that as the "indirect contact" Michelle had with the affected neighbour was about 12 days ago, healthcare professionals "say 14 days" in order to exercise caution.

He went on to say: "If you self isolate now, we're going to see more cases in the wider public as the weeks go by, I'm afraid" and added people would be confused as to whether to self isolate again after coming out of isolation.

The doctor also said "the vast majority of coughs and colds are nothing to do with coronavirus" and added "sneezes and snuffles are rarely coronavirus."

He said a common indicator of the virus is a dry cough.

Michelle said she currently does not have any symptoms of the global illness.
