The Liberal Democrats have won the Oxton by-election, holding the seat with a big majority.
The ward will be served by three Lib Dem councillors after last night’s vote, with Dr Orod Osanlou becoming Oxton’s newest councillor.
The vote was triggered after the sad death of Lib Dem councillor Andy Corkhill on October 4. He was just 36.

The party already had a fairly big lead over its nearest rival in the ward, with a margin of more than 31% separating the Lib Dems and Labour in May’s vote in Oxton.
But Dr Osanlou increased this, stretching the Lib Dem lead over Labour to almost 50%.
Of course, by-elections can throw up unusual numbers with turnout normally being lower than votes in a regular election period.
But the Lib Dems will be pleased with the party’s share of the vote in this by-election.
Speaking after his victory was announced, Dr Osanlou said: “I would like to thank the people of Oxton for once again showing faith in the Liberal Democrats.
“As a team we will fight for you and be your voice on the council.

- Sue Mahoney (Labour) 460 (19%)
- Philip Merry (Conservative) 168 (7%)
