Liberal Democrat MP Cameron Thomas suspended from party pending police investigation

A Liberal Democrat MP has had the whip suspended pending the outcome of a police investigation, a party spokesperson said.

Cameron Thomas has also had his party membership suspended, it is understood.

The party said it was “unable to comment further” while an “investigation is ongoing”.

The former RAF officer has served as MP for Tewkesbury since the 2024 general election.

The Independent has contacted Mr Thomas’ office and Gloucestershire Police for comment.

Mr Thomas, a former Royal Air Force officer who served tours in Iraq, the United Arab Emirates and the Falkland Islands, was part of the team that assisted with the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan.

After his 23-year military career, he went into politics ahead of the general election nearly two years ago.

He successfully defeated Conservative incumbent Laurence Robertson with a majority of 6,262 on a swing of 24.5 per cent swing, marking the first time since 1885 that Tewkesbury has had a non-Conservative MP.
