Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson loses her seat as Scotland turns SNP yellow

Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson has lost her seat in Westminster by just 149 votes.

The former East Dunbartonshire MP became a casualty of a losing out to Amy Callaghan at the polls.

The shocking news comes less than six months after she was elected party leader.

Callaghan won 19,672 votes to Swinson's 19,523, with a massive turnout of 80 per cent.

It also looks likely to be a poor night for Swinson's party across the UK as it is predicted to win just 13 seats.

The SNP, by contrast, are expected to increase their number of seats from 35 to 55 on what looks to be a potentially hugely successful night Nicola Sturgeon 's party.

Sturgeon said that while the exit poll "suggests a good night" for the SNP, she added that "what it indicates UK wide though is grim" with exit polls suggesting a massive Tory majority.
