Liar series 2 confirms how Andrew Earlham died - but fans predict major twist

Liar revealed details about the death of Andrew Earlham in the opener to series two, as Laura Nielson faced tough questioning from detectives.

The first series of the ITV drama in 2017 ended with the murder of rapist Andrew, shown laying dead in marshlands.

No details were confirmed, other than that the second series would cover the death and reveal who killed him.

The first episode of the new season revealed how he died, while details on what happened in his final moments were not quite confirmed.

The detectives told all to a stunned Laura, as suspicion immediately fell on her.

Prior to this, initial findings confirmed a knife wound to the larynx caused his death which was instant.

Forensics didn't rule out the wound being self-inflicted, but claimed it was "incredibly unlikely", suggesting murder.

DI Inspector Karen Renton, played by Katherine Kelly, told Laura: "We found Andrew Earlham's body last night."

She added: "Someone slit his throat," while confirming he'd been found in the marshes.

Time of death was not confirmed, but the detectives were looking for it to be around early morning, maybe 6am - this will most likely be a clue further on in the series.

But what the show did not confirm, obviously, was who did it - while several suspects were announced.

As the episode went on, more details about that night were confirmed except viewers still didn't know what led to the death.

With the whereabouts of key characters including Oliver, Katie and Andrew's son all shown, very little appeared to confirm a motive behind the murder.

That said, some other scenes left viewers convinced there was an even bigger twist at play - either he was faking his death, or had actually planned to die to set up Laura.

Viewers took to Twitter with their big theories, despite a body being shown, with many convinced not all was as it seemed.

One fan said: "My theory, Andrew planned his own death with help as a last act of revenge on Laura."

Another said: " #Liar hes not dead. His plastic surgeon friend has helped him fake a death..its somebody else . Or he has killed himself and stitched her up like a kipper."

A third tweeted: "Maybe he faked his own death to get the police off his back."
