Liam Williams sends message of support to Wales team-mates after heartbreaking news that his World Cup is over

Wales star full-back Liam Williams has issued a public message of support to his teammates after being ruled out of the rest of the tournament due to an ankle injury.

The Welsh talent suffered the injury due to an accidental collision in training on Wednesday, and the news was confirmed on Friday that he would miss the remainder of Wales' tournament.

He was watching Wales' captain’s run on Saturday on the sidelines while wearing a protective boot on his right foot, and also using crutches to get around.

Now, on the eve of Wales' semi-final against South Africa, the 28-year-old has issued a public message to his comrades.

Writing on Instagram, the Saracens star said: "Gutted to have picked up an injury at this stage in the tournament.

"Thank you for the support over the past few months, you’ve been amazing!

"I would like to wish  @welshrugbyunion  all the best for the next two games, bring it home boys!"

Leigh Halfpenny will now slot in at full-back to face the Springboks on Sunday.

Speaking in Wales' press conference on Saturday, Wales coach Stephen Jones said: "It’s disappointing to lose Liam.

"But we’ve got Leigh Halfpenny coming in, who is a wonderful player.

"He brings a different dimension to the backline.

"Look at Leigh’s game, aerially he’s very good, his workrate behind the defensive line is top drawer."
