Liam Williams perfectly explains his reason for returning to Wales as fan questions his Scarlets decision

Wales star Liam Williams has given a simple explanation for his decision to return to the Scarlets next season after being questioned by a fan.

The full-back was responding to a member of the public on Twitter, who questioned why he would want to leave European champions Saracens and the English Premiership to come back to Wales and play in the PRO14.

Williams, publicly acknowledging his impending move for the first time, simply responded by saying: "Because home is home."

The fan had posted: "I must be missing something or I'm just thick as f***. Why would you leave the best team in Europe and the best domestic tournament for a return to Wales for a few quid and PRO14 rugby?? Oh, and I forgot, Challenge Cup rugby to boot. Only you know Liam. Only you know."

Williams this week signed a deal worth around £400,000 a year to return to the Welsh region he left in 2017. The move has yet to be officially announced but that confirmation is expected in the coming days.

He had been linked to the Ospreys, while Toulon also reportedly showed an interest .

But, ultimately, the 28-year-old opted to renew his association with the region for whom he played for six years before joining Saracens. Last season, he showed his worth with a series of outstanding displays and walked off the field a loser in just one of 23 matches.

Williams, who has been living in London with Welsh model girlfriend Sophie Harries, has won everything with Saracens during his spell there and is now ready to return home where he will become one of the highest paid players at the Welsh regions.
