Wales and Saracens star Liam Williams was sin-binned for clashing with England international scrum-half Danny Care at the London Stadium.
The brawl resulted in a Saracens try controversially being annulled by referee JP Doyle, despite Harlequins number nine Care starting the altercation.
Care shoved Williams after he found himself on the wrong side of a ruck, with the Wales full-back responding by bundling his opponent to the ground.
After getting to his feet, Care grabbed Williams by the shirt and threw him to the turf before the pair engaged in some wrestling as the assistant referee shouted for them to stop.
All this was happening as play continued and Saracens actually crossed the line through David Strettle to seemingly take the lead in the 54th minute.
But that try was eventually expunged as referee Doyle spent several minutes studying footage before giving Saracens a penalty and sending both the players to the bin.
Williams could be heard on the ref mic pleading with Doyle not to disallow the try, describing the incident as "handbags".
But his words fell on deaf ears as both players exited the field despite Saracens' complaints.
Williams' side eventually came from behind to win 27-20 in the Gallagher Premiership match.
