Liam Smith's rematch with Chris Eubank Jr rescheduled after minor injury scare

Liam Smith's highly-anticipated rematch with Chris Eubank Jr has been rescheduled for July 1 after the Liverpudlian sustained a minor injury during his training camp.

The contest was originally scheduled to take place at the Manchester Arena on Saturday, June 17 but Smith and his promoters, Boxxer, have now confirmed the event will be postponed by two weeks to allow the 34-year-old to recover from a niggling issue.

Smith beat Eubank Jr in devastating fashion during the first bout back in January, stopping the former WBA interim middleweight champion in the fourth round after a flurry of blows saw Eubank Jr TKO'd for the first time in his career.

Speaking after confirmation of the rearranged date, Smith said: “It’s just an old injury niggle flaring up but I want to take the time to let it heal up so that I can enter the ring at 100 per cent on fight night, because a 100 per cent Liam Smith beats Chris Eubank Jr every day of the week and twice on Sunday.”

Despite the postponement, the undercard and venue will remain the same with Savannah Marshall's title fight against Franchon Crews-Dezurn's one of a number of eye-catching bouts to look out for. Toxteth-born fighter Natasha Jones will also be in action as she defends her WBC, WBO and IBF belts.

Boxxer have confirmed that all tickets bought for the original date will remain valid for Saturday, July 1.
