Liam Sheedy admits Tipperary likely to be without Cathal Barrett and Patrick Maher after Munster final dress rehearsal

Liam Sheedy admitted he’s likely to be without Cathal Barrett and Patrick Maher for the Munster final.

Both players were replaced during the first half of the 1-22 to 0-21 win over Limerick with Barrett’s injury appearing to be a hamstring problem though Maher’s (knee) looked to be more serious.

Tipperary boss Sheedy said: “At this stage I would say it’s highly unlikely they’ll make the Munster final. With any type of strain it will take longer than a week or two I would imagine.

“But that’s the nature of the game, there’s always a danger that someone gets a knock and that’s why we have a panel so we called on our panel today and they responded.”

The victory closed out a flawless round robin stage from Sheedy’s side with four wins from as many outings after failing to win a single Championship game in 2018.

He continued: “To come out with a victory is very pleasing and it means we have concluded the league stage of this Championship and we find ourselves in a Munster final.

“We aimed to get into the top three and find ourselves in the top two. It moves now from the comfort of having the league gone and into the real business end of this Championship.”

As for the prospect of facing Limerick again on Sunday week, Sheedy added: “You see Kilkenny and Wexford, they meet again in two weeks’ time and it’s a really competitive Championship. We’ll do what we always do: focus on our preparation.

“This was all about focusing on the league stages before the winner-takes-all in the Munster final. For where we’re coming from, it’s a great place to be.”
