Liam Shaw to Celtic compensation fee 'set' as Fifa step in over Sheffield Wednesday pay out

Celtic have reportedly been ordered to pay £300K to Sheffield Wednesday for the signing of Liam Shaw.

The former Sheffield Wednesday youngster officially put pen to paper on a four-year Parkhead deal on Tuesday after his pre-contract move to Glasgow from the Owls.

Despite the agreement being confirmed by former boss Neil Lennon months ago, the Sheffield Star report FIFA have set that compensation fee at £300,000.

They note that the payment from Celtic is expected to be made this summer if it has not been already.

The agreement also means that Shaw will be able to join up with the Hoops squad on the opening day of pre-season, rather than when his Wednesday contract expired on July 1.

The 20-year-old has swapped League One football for a crack at the Champions League with the Owls relegated last season.

In his first interview as a Celtic player he admitted he was hoping to catch the eye of new boss Ange Postecoglou, having been signed when former boss Lennon was in the hot seat.

Shaw said: “There’s a new manager so it’s a fresh start for everyone and you just have to go in and try and impress.

“That’s been the case throughout my career.

"I’ve had new managers and you just have to keep your head down and show your ability and show you’ve got a good attitude and hopefully you get picked."
