Liam Shaw's Celtic pre-contract doesn't concern Sheffield Wednesday as boss makes 'commitment' claim

Interim Sheffield Wednesday boss Neil Thompson has defended Liam Shaw after he agreed a pre-contract deal with Celtic.

The Owls utility player will make a move from the Championship strugglers to the Scottish Premiership this summer.

However, the 19-year-old's agreement has led some to question his commitment to the Hillsborough side's battle for survival amid a mounting injury list.

Thompson insists he has no concerns about playing Shaw for the remainder of the campaign as Wednesday look to escape the bottom three.

When asked if he had spoken to Shaw since Neil Lennon's signing announcement at his press conference today, the boss said: “That's not my remit.

“Liam played the other night and did a good job. He put the work in without a shadow of a doubt and that's as far as it goes.”

When pushed on Shaw’s commitment to the club, he responded: “Every player who is here is committed to what we're doing and what we're trying to do.

“Even if you are not playing, you need to have the right attitude around the building and in training.

"We've had that and that has got to continue. It's not just about one individual; it's about the group. It's the group that will get us over the line.”
