Liam Shaw handed Celtic switch warning as former boss Tony Pulis issues 'opportunities' poser

Celtic-bound Liam Shaw has been warned about his chances under the next Parkhead boss by Tony Pulis.

The young midfielder will arrive in the summer after agreeing a freedom of contract move to the Scottish Premiership.

The 20-year-old was handed a run in the Sheffield Wednesday team by Pulis but has been used sparingly at Sheffield Wednesday since the pre-contract move was announced.

Shaw will be among those eagerly awaiting the announcement of the next Celtic boss, but Pulis told The Athletic that opportunities could be limited under Neil Lennon's successor.

The veteran gaffer said: “The big thing with him, more than anything, is obviously experience and games.

"I personally think that for what they’re paying it’s a great signing for the football club.

“It’s just where Celtic go now, whether they’ll go and strengthen in that area with the new manager, and what that might mean for Shaw’s opportunities next season.

"But he’s a very, very good lad and he’ll work hard for those opportunities.”

When Pulis was in charge of the Championship side, he would use versatile Shaw at centre-back, while he has more recently played in midfield.

Pulis added: “He can play in various positions, very versatile — (he’s) good in that respect.

“Technically, for being such a big lad, he is a very good passer of the ball. Just a great person, with a fabulous attitude towards wanting to learn and work.”
