Liam Sercombe heaps praise on Bristol Rovers fans and club atmosphere after Peterborough United draw

Bristol Rovers midfielder Liam Sercombe has heaped praise on the Gas fans and the club atmosphere after the draw against Peterborough.

Neither team were able to break the deadlock in a tightly contested affair, but the game wasn't without its clear cut chances.

Gas captain Ollie Clarke had the best chance of the game in the closing minutes when he found space inside the Posh box, but his low, driven shot was saved by goalkeeper Christy Pym.

Ivan Toney and Mo Eisa both went close for Darren Ferguson's side, but Anssi Jaakkola's fine handling kept out the league's top scorers.

After the game, midfielder Liam Sercombe spoke about the 'strange week' at the club, but says the fans and the atmosphere at the club helped them pull ofa a result against an in form side today.

He said: "Kev (Maher) said before we went out, I think the fans will be on your side today. It's quite a lot that's gone on with the manager just leaving. The fans were class today right from the start.

"They were right behind us, it looked like there was quite a few that turned up. They were cheering all the way through. It's nice to see they're sticking with us.

"Hopefully we're giving them something to cheer, being fourth in the league."

Sercombe said that despite the distraction of Coughlan's departure, the atmosphere and day-to-day running of the club hasn't really changed.

He said that the current set up is working well.

"It's been strange because it's all come out of the blue. We had no idea about it but as professional footballers you just get on with things," Sercombe said.

"Not much changes. We've lost the assistant and manager, but training and games and the way we're playing is always the same until a new man comes in and changes it.

"For now, we're going in the right direction and we're doing pretty well. We lead the changing room ourselves as players and that's all we can do. It's working at the minute."

The former Exeter City defender also heaped praise on the Gas back line. Rovers are now unbeaten in 12 games, and much of that is down to the form of the back three of Alfie Kilgour, Rollin Menayese and Tony Craig.

Sercombe said: "Not many teams get through our defence to be fair. Alfie, Rollin and Tony literally block everything. They're doing very well as a back three there. Anssi is pulling off worldies every week.

"Credit to those boys. We're doing pretty well."
