Liam Sercombe admits he has sacrificed his own form for Bristol Rovers' cause this season

Liam Sercombe admits his Bristol Rovers form has dipped due to playing out of position this season.

Sercombe is at his swashbuckling best when bursting through the middle in an attacking midfield role, but has found himself put out onto the left wing for large periods of the season, due to the fact that the Gas lack a proper left-sided midfielder.

It has led to a frustrating campaign for the Rovers man, who has netted four goals in 45 appearances - in stark contrast to the 12 goals in 48 appearances he had last year, when he also scooped the club's player of the year award.

He admits his own form, like many of Rovers' players, has not been at its best this season, and it is now a case of ensuring the side secure their League One safety before going again next season.

He said: "I don't want to say too much on the position but the gaffer says I'm doing a job for the team.

"Everyone knows I'm playing out of position, that's the way it is.

"Obviously it's not going to get the best from me as much as I know I can.

Graham Coughlan sends Bristol Rovers message ahead of massive Fleetwood Town game

"Form-wise, it's been different for everyone really this season, you can see where we are in the league.

"There's been a lot of people who haven't been in normal form, we've got one or two, obviously.

"We need to put it right and just need to get it over the line then refocus for next season and go again.

"Then hopefully everyone will pick up form as a team and on a personal level."
