Liam Scales signs for Celtic as wanted left back pens four year deal

Liam Scales has joined Celtic on a four-year deal from Shamrock Rovers.

And the timing could be perfect with Greg Taylor suffering a shoulder injury in the Europa League clash with Alkmaar.

Celtic were forced into bringing on teenager Adam Montgomery but the Scotland youth international showed his potential during a dogged second half display in the Netherlands.

Scales is widely regarded as one of the finest players in the League of Ireland which has been forged during his successful period with Rovers.

Ange Postecoglou shared his delight at securing the 23-year-old - who can play in multiple positions across the backline.

Speaking to the club's website, he said: "Liam is a young player who has impressed us and is someone who we think has the potential to have a big future at Celtic. He is an athletic defender who has the ability to play in a number of positions.

"As I have said before, everyone at the club has been working hard to add depth and quality to our squad and in signing Liam I think again we have made good progress. We all look forward to welcoming Liam to Celtic and to start working with him."
