Liam Scales scores on Scottish Premiership debut as Celtic see off Dundee United

Former Shamrock Rovers star Liam Scales netted just six minutes into his Scottish Premiership debut as Celtic strolled to victory against Dundee United at Tannadice.

It was a fourth Hoops appearance for the 23-year-old and his first league game since his move to Glasgow in August, as Ange Postecoglou's side kept up the pressure on Rangers at the top of the table following their rivals' 3-0 win over Dundee at Ibrox yesterday.

Tom Rogic opened the scoring with a stunner and David Turnbull added a second before the break. And Scales added a third late on on having been introduced as a substitute.

The winning margin could have been so much bigger with a combination of missed chances and fine goalkeeping keeping the scoreline down but it was a great day all round for the visitors.

Here’s three talking points from Tannadice.

Ange-ball a joy

This was Celtic at their free-flowing best and Dundee United just couldn’t deal with them.

Ange Postecoglou’s determination to play in this style has had its critics when it has cost them at the back.

But when it clicks like it did at Tannadice then supporters absolutely love it and it’s not hard to see why.

The first two goals were exquisite - the first a solo one from Rogic and the second great build-up and finish - and summed up the Celtic flair.

The Hoops were a joy to watch and created chance after chance and in this kind of form they would be a match for anyone.

Magic man shows more wizardry

Brendan Rodgers dubbed him ‘Magic Man’ and Tom Rogic showed exactly why with a stunning solo opener.

The Aussie might not be the quickest but he can glide his way past defenders and the United defence couldn’t deal with him last his strike.

Rogic was always likely to be a key figure under Ange Postecoglou given they had worked together previously with the Australia national team.

The 28-year-old had been out injured but returned for the win over Hearts and showed why he is so crucial.

Magic Johnston

Mikey Johnston made only his fourth start in almost two years and the youngster really impressed.

And that is great for Ange Postecoglou given he has mounting injury concerns with Johnston himself out for so long.

Jota has been ruled out for a couple of weeks and James Forrest was taken off at the break - the last thing the Celtic boss needed.

But getting more minutes into Johnston is exactly what the 22-year-old needs and that lengthy crock list could be to his benefit.
