Liam Scales in transfer confession as Celtic target teases 'anything can happen'

Celtic target Liam Scales admits "anything can happen" in the remaining weeks of the transfer window.

The Premiership club are said to have tabled an offer for the Shamrock Rovers defender amid interest from Premier League sides Southampton and Norwich City.

Scales headed home a 95th minute winner against Longford at the weekend to underline his importance to the League of Ireland champions, but he may not be turning out for them much longer.

The 23-year-old is considering his options but doesn't want interest from Celtic and beyond to become a distraction while he remains a Rovers player.

“I’m not sure but I’d say so. Anything can happen," Scales told the Irish Mirror.

“There’s interest and that’s public. I’m weighing up my options and taking my time. Until I make that decision I’m a Rovers player.

“I plan on performing well week in, week out as long as I’m here and until anything comes of that. But I’m just focusing on my performance.

“I have to work hard to stay in the team but the interest is flattering, of course it is. But I don’t want it to be a distraction.

“I had it at UCD in the past (when he was close to joining Bristol Rovers) and it affected my performance. So if there is any news, we’ll talk about it then.”
